Settling in…

Google has chosen this page as a landing page for opening times… which are: Tuesday – Saturday: Noon – 1.30 pm and 4.30 – 8.00 pm   Sunday: 4.30 – 8.00 pm. They are also on the front page of our website!

I think we are getting there; more staff are becoming more expert in more areas so in due course we will have more options for those really busy times when the organised chaos can fleetingly seem disorganised…

Our opening hours are now settled – at least for the summer. (By which I mean until mid-September, not necessarily anything to do with the weather.) They are on the front page of the website and the shop window – basically lunctimes and evenings Tuesday – Saturday and evening Sunday.  (We will also open on bank holiday Monday evenings then close on the following Tuesday.)

Thank you for our cards!

Thank you for our cards!

We have taken down our good luck/congratulations and thank you cards – thank you to so many of you for wishing us well.  And thank you to the coast to coast-ers who sent such a nice card after Jo dropped you off at the Shap Wells – why would you expect it to be five miles further on? So unfair!  The cards were on the top of the drinks fridge, which is now shiny clean.  We only have one staff member who can see up there, so Rosie – in future that’s your job, please! We are wondering what to put on the white wall – we were thinking about a cartoon-style map of the area, or of the coast to coast route – any suggestions? We will also put up boards with fish and chip facts – where the fish we use are caught (Marine Stewardship Council approved waters), the fact that potatoes went up by 25% a week after we opened… (yes really, though they seem to have gone back down a little now).

  1. Hi George
May I offer a suggestion? Instead of making people wait per order, can the people that simply want fish & chips and where its sat in the hot counter and ready to go not be served straight away? Sadly we waited 45 minutes on Friday night and was served the same fish & chips that we saw sat in the hot counter when we entered the shop. Its seems silly that many in the queue were waiting for items that were actually ready & available. Poor bloke in front of me only wanted 2 large portions of chips and 1 sausage and he was in there before me so goodness how long he waited. I think its a given that anyone that wants items such as fish cakes, chicken nuggets etc know they are made to order and have to wait and therefore shouldnt grumble if people are served whilst they are waiting.

    1. Hi Helen, I am sorry you got a piece of fish that had been there while you waited, that shouldn’t have happened. Thank you for your suggestion – that is exactly what should have happened. My priority is certainly to match the food that is ready with the customers who want it as soon as we can. It is now very rare and only happening at the busiest of times that we cannot be aware of most (if not all) the orders wanted by all the customers – eat in and take-away – in the shop at any one time. We are still trying to get the systems (to help us keep the info in our heads!) right – and as we get the systems right, we are getting all staff trained in the right systems. Interesting Christmas website, by the way!

  2. Fish and chips tasty! The shop looked clean and staff nice! Good to see Shap chippy open again and on a regular basis! Will use more often! Keep up the good work! 🙂

    1. Thanks Ben, the Environmental Officer visited last week and she was impressed with the premises and staff… I hope We’ll make sure the fish and chips continue to be tasty and look forward to seeing you again sometime!
